Thanks to a generous donation from Casella Organics, NAC Elementary was able to add a Flashforge 3D Printer to our STEM program this year. Using student Chromebooks and 3D design software, the fifth graders created and printed keyrings. It was an exciting learning opportunity for students to learn about and use this rapidly advancing technology.

The March Madness Bobcat Book Tournament is drawing to a close! All of NAC Elementary is biting our nails to see who will win the battle of the books! Today the winner of the Final Four matchup was "Creepy Pair of Underwear" by Aaron Reynolds. Tomorrow's choice will determine the second book that will appear in Thursday's CHAMPIONSHIP match! Students and Staff are encouraged to dress up on Thursday in the colors or characters of the book they hope will win. Support your book "team" and show off your book spirit!

THAT'S FOR THE BIRDS! Some children in Mrs. Williams’ 2nd grade class have been participating in a program called FeedWatch. FeedWatch is a November-April survey of birds that visit backyards, nature centers, community areas, and other locales in North America. A feeder has been set up near the recess area. The birds visiting the feeder are counted two days a week, the count is then entered online. The counts we do locally allow scientists to track what is happening to birds around our home and contribute to a world wide database.

February 14th is the 100th Day of School!!! After the holidays, perhaps the largest celebration for elementary students is the 100th day of school. From the very first day, classes begin keeping track of the number of days they have been in school in anticipation of the 100th day. It is a milestone that represents progress, growth, and achievement. For educators, this is likely a moment for reflection: What has been working well? What has not? What are your goals for the rest of the school year? For students, it is the perfect opportunity for creative learning and celebration. Check out this website for some fun 100 day activities: https://www.signupgenius.com/school/ways-to-celebrate-the-100th-day-of-school.cfm

Friday's Kindness Quote: “Kind hearts are the gardens. Kind thoughts are the roots. Kind words are the flowers. Kind deeds are the fruits. Take care of your garden and keep out the weeds. Fill it with sunshine, kind words and kind deeds.” -Henry Wadsworth Longfellow NAC Elementary has celebrated Kindness Week this week (January 24-28) as part of the Great Kindness Challenge. What will you do to be kind? Don’t forget it can be a simple smile or a kind word.
