Congratulations to our Elementary Principal Lisa Silver, who received the 2024 Beatrice E. Griggs Elementary Administrator Award at the annual New York State Library Association Section of School Librarians (NYLA/SSL) awards banquet on Friday, May 17! Ms. Silver was honored with this award due to her unwavering support of the NAC Elementary School Library, which has allowed it to become a strong resource for our students and staff. Under her leadership, the library has fulfilled roles teaching information literacy and digital fluency and expanded access to digital products such as databases and educational software. Because library staffing levels have been maintained through the strong advocacy of Ms. Silver and others, the shared resources of the library are well-managed, modern, and accessible. The presenters indicated that there was strong competition this year among the nominees, but Ms. Silver was the clear winner. The award banquet was attended by hundreds of Librarians from throughout New York State, and NAC was showcased as the positive example of library support that we know it to be.

It's Career Week at NAC Elementary! It's been a week full of interesting presenters sharing with our students all about the jobs they enjoy. Zowie Auger of the Her~petology reptile show brought some of her amazing creepy-crawlies to teach us about snakes and reptiles. Dr. Michael Davey explained all about modern dentistry, with live demonstrations of some of his technical equipment. Author and Illustrator Brian Yanish taught us about creating stories and bringing our ideas to life to share with readers - and he even personally signed books for more than 67 students! The NYS Police brought equipment and dogs to talk to students about the many jobs that Troopers do to help us. Thank you to all of the professionals who have given our students new ways to dream and plan for their futures!
