The primary purpose of this course is to formalize and extend the mathematics that students learned in the middle grades. The material covered in this course will prepare students for the Algebra I Regents exam. On this exam students are expected not only to solve algebra problems and answer algebrarelated questions but also to explain and justify their reasoning.
Topics covered include, but are not limited, to the following list.

Algebra Basics  Expressions, properties, graphing

Multistep Equations & Inequalities  Including absolute value and fractional, exponent rules

Relations and Functions  graphing, transformations

Linear Equations  graphing, slope, parallel and perpendicular lines

System of Equations & Inequalities  Solve by substitution, elimination, graphingg

Exponent Rules  product rule, negative exponents, radicals

Polynomials & Factoring  Add/Subtract/Multiply/Divide(A/S/M/D)

Quadratic Equations  Solving by Quadratic formula and factoring, linear vs. quadratic, graphing

Rational Expressions & Equations  simplifying, A/S/M/D

Radicals  Add/Subtract, rationalize, solving equations involving

Functions and Sequences  Real world application of functions including exponential(growth/decay) and quadratics. Arithmetic and Geometric sequences including describing with a recursive formula

Statistics  quartiles, measures of center, graphs, variance, zscores

Modeling with All functions
